Sorry I've been kind of absent lately.  I've actually still been here posting, but only private entries lately.  Too much going on that I need to get off my chest, but not publicly.  I've learned, especially due to recent events in my life, that talking about it isn't always the answer.  You never know if you can trust the people that you think you can.  Anyway, 9 more months until my contract is up and I'll be going home.  I can't wait.  I feel like my life is in limbo right now.  Bleh.

Felt my first earthquake today.  It was scary as hell.  Felt like I was on a ship during high seas.  7.2 magnitude, epicenter only about 120 miles away.

Well, I was trying to post a widget to my formspring.me account. I'll just post a link instead. Ask me anything anonymously. I'll be up all night, as it's my first night after a two week vacation on midwatch, so I'll need the entertainment. :)

Thanks. :D

I'm finally going on the trip I've dreamed of since middle school.

In April of next year, I'm flying to Europe and backpacking my way around for a little over a month.

SO.  EXCITED.

Alright, so before you say anything... I know Indian people don't eat their food with chopsticks on Japanese-themed dishes. I don't have anything India-themed, but I didn't want to put the food on regular plates. k? K.

From the top left in the little bowl is Bombay potatoes with chickpeas over rice, top right is a cup of chai.
On the plate from the left is madras lentils over rice, spicy green beans, and my absolute favorite part of the whole meal: Tandoori chicken. It was soooo good.

Continuing on, my sister and I decided to mega-dork it up and dress up for the occasion. And take pictures, of course. Here are a few of my costume, which was thrown together in under 10 minutes. Note the fugly "sari" that my sister helped me wrap. I wish so badly that I had real Indian clothes that I could have worn. Oh well.

I made this bento-themed lunch for me and my sister, Alix, today.

From top left, a small cup of milk. Top right, a little bowl with four orange slices, peach yogurt, and a seedless green grape to top it off.

On the big plate, there is a little plate of peanut butter. Next to that, celery slices and a little pile of baby carrots. Under the peanut butter plate is four pieces of mini toast that I made with honey and cinnamon on them, and finally a row of cut up hot dog with tiny little mustard dots on them.

Cute, huh? It's amazing how much more you enjoy your food when you put a lot of time into it. And it was the simplest bunch of ingredients, but I had such a fun time making it into a work of art.

If you're interested in more bento, here's a nice little site to get you started. http://mybentolunch.com/

It's been ages since I've updated...

I've had tons going on recently. Went to Las Vegas December 21st to finally meet one of my very dearest friends, and had a great time. I've been sponsoring a new sailor at the command and mentoring her. I finally got qualified and knocked out a few things on my 101 in 1,001 list which I'll post an updated version of soon.

Today I went to the World Market and spent a heap of cash on some awesome non-American stuff. I bought a pretty Japanese dinner dish set, a bamboo rug for the kitchen, some Indian food, and other things. Plus I bought the first four books from a series I read as a teenager that I've been trying to hunt down for years.

Also, college finally started Tuesday. Hooray! The first class is kind of silly. It's a self-assessment type of thing to help me transition into adult learning. This is terrible to say, but some of the people in that class write like first graders. *sigh* Ah, well. I can't wait to get to University of Kentucky when I get out of the military next year. I'm soooo beyond ready.

We got another kitty, named Smokey. She's absolutely gorgeous, with bright green eyes and a very colourful coat. She and Smunt didn't get along very well at first, but they're slowly starting to come around to one another.

The picture is of my kitchen, obviously. It's one of my favorite places. :)

So I finally have all of my Christmas cards prepped and ready to send out. Every year I say I'm going to send them and never end up doing it. But I did this year! YAY. They might be a little late to some addresses, i.e. Scotland and Australia. Sorry, guys.

Anyway. Just thought I'd see if anyone here wanted one before I send them all out Monday morning. I have a couple more! :)

Hope you're all doing well.

Love,
Ashe.

Girlies on my friends list, I need a little halps.

I got a LOT of excellent advice from you guys regarding my chosen career path, so I thought I'd ask of you one more thing. :)

The shampoo and conditioner I've been using lately used to be great and I loved it, but recently it seems like every time I get out of the shower, my hair is tangled and feels dry.

Can anyone recommend a really good shampoo and conditioner that will turn my hair from a dry, dull mess to sleek, shiny, silk glory? :D :D

My hair is getting longer than it has been since high school, and I've been super lazy in terms of getting it trimmed every six weeks. So in addition to shampoo and conditioner, what else can I do to take better care of my hair?

I moved out of mother's house and into my dad's right when I hit my teenage years so I never learned much about beauty routines and how to take care of my hair and my skin and etc. So any advice from you guys would be really great. Hair, or otherwise. :)

Oo, oo! And what would be MOST awesome, if you could tell me what kind of morning/nightly beauty routine you do each day. I'm clueless when it comes to stuff like that.

Thanks!
